Before going into detail, let us specify that the study⁽¹⁾ was carried out in Europe (France, Germany and Spain) as well as in North and South America (USA & Brazil). 1,250 HGV fleets were surveyed. The road hauliers interviewed, who are not exclusively Michelin brand customers, were asked to evaluate and compare several brands of tyres available on the market. They chose the tyre brand they approve the most, based on 16 criteria grouped into 4 main areas:

1. Values and partnership
2. Innovation and quality
3. Robustness and reliability
4. Sustainability

Road hauliers chose between the MICHELIN brand and 5 other truck tyre manufacturers. Let's see what they came up with.

At the heart of this ‘Values and partnership’ area, 5 criteria were presented to find out the opinion of the hauliers interviewed. They had to decide which brand:

● Is a real partner?
● Is easy to do business with.
● Offers a complete solution including truck tyres, tyre-related services and assistance and fleet management solution.
● Offers the best TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) when you add up the purchase cost, maintenance savings, retreadability, service life and fuel savings of these tyres.
● Offers truck tyres whose performance justifies their price.

2 - Innovation and quality

At Michelin, innovation is at the service of quality. We work relentlessly to develop new technologies, materials and manufacturing processes designed to improve tyre performance, safety, energy efficiency, strength and longevity.

In this category, we asked for which tyre brands these statements are true:

• They last a long time
• They are resistant
• They are innovative
• They are technologically advanced

3 - Robustness and reliability

We know how crucial robust and reliable tyres are for road transport companies. They ensure the safety of drivers and goods, reduce downtime and maintenance costs, and increase productivity.

Robust, reliable truck tyres enable on-time deliveries, enhancing a company's reputation and ensuring regulatory compliance. They also last longer, maximising the initial investment. In short, these criteria directly influence the operational and financial performance of transport companies, making their choice strategic for long-term success.

In this category, the question was to decide for which brand of truck tyres these statements are true:

• Truck tyres contribute to driving safety
• They are reliable
• They are robust and prevent breakdowns

4 - Sustainability

Sustainability is also an essential quality for road haulage companies. Sustainable truck tyres not only reduce environmental impact through optimised design, they also contribute to significant fuel savings, enabling fleet owners to reduce their operating costs while meeting regulatory standards and reinforcing their brand image based on sustainability and social responsibility.

On the subject of durability, the road hauliers surveyed gave their opinion on the brand whose truck tyres:

• Are environmentally friendly
• Are at the forefront of sustainable mobility
• Are fuel-efficient

Conclusion

The results of this Kantar⁽¹⁾ study show that road hauliers do not choose a tyre brand solely basis on its day-to-day performance. They also take into account the brand's ability to respond to environmental issues. Sustainability has become an essential criterion in their decision, with particular attention paid to truck tyres that are environmentally friendly, fuel-efficient and designed for sustainable mobility.
