PROFESSIONAL TYRE SIZES EXPLAINED

Your tyre choice must comply not only with the vehicle and tyre manufacturers’ recommendations, but also with legal and regulatory requirements (for example, size, load index, speed rating, structure, etc.) Finding the right tyre fitment is critical for optimal performance.

Where do I find the right tyre dimension for my vehicle?

Finding your vehicle's tyre size is straightforward. Below, you'll find all available tyre sizes to make it easy for you. To know the correct tyre size for your professional vehicle, check your owner's manual or your driver's side door frame: the recommended tyre size and loading information is indicated on the door jamb placard. You can also check the sidewall of your current tyres to know their size.

How do you read tyre sizes?

Tyre sizes are displayed as a series of numbers and letters, each one giving you important details about the tyre.

Let's use the MICHELIN XEOBIB tyre as an example. On the tyre sidewall, you’ll see markings such as “650/60R38 155D,” which indicate essential information about the tyre's size and characteristics:

  • 650 - The first number always indicates the width of the tyre (in millimeters here, though in some applications this value may be expressed in inches).
  • 60 - The second number is the aspect ratio, which is the height of the tyre as a percentage of width. In this example, the height of the tyre is 60% of its width.

  • R - This letter denotes the type of construction,"R" indicating radial construction. Other common designations: D" or "-" for diagonal and "B" for belted.

  • 38 - This number specifies the wheel diameter (in inches here, though in some applications this value may be expressed in millimeters).

  • 155 - This value is the load rating.

  • D - The final letter represents the speed rating.
